I am passionate about sharing the patterns, colors, organic shapes, and the light that falls on everything in nature.  Conversely, many of my pure abstracts are about ideas, feelings, or even current events.

The bold colors express my optimism that there is always something to love about each day, and that I can create it myself.  After my sister passed away in 2012, I began creating art as a way to cope with grief.  It eventually became a way of expressing everything that I experience in life.  It is both my own language and a spiritual connection to others that crosses the boundaries of culture, language, and even time.

The pieces I create represent a conversation between the concrete tools of paint and canvas and my impressions, memories, and half-remembered dreams.  I like to explore my drive to create through tactile experiences, moving paint around the canvas in a very physical way.  Scraping, spattering, dripping, layering, uncovering, building up, scribbling, flinging, and any other way I can find to get paint from tube to canvas!

For collages, I start with random painting on a piece of unstretched canvas.  From there I cut out shapes and look for coincidences that work.  Happenstance.  Sometimes I pull from a large box of scraps.  Once I have a design I usually leave it out and play around with the shapes for a few days before anchoring to the substrate.

This is the dance of conversing and creating.
